Video transcription without the trauma
ScribeSense was born out of a need to do many hours of video transcription without hassle. Using ScribeSense means that you don’t have to send physical media around the world - in fact, you don’t need to use any sort of physical media at all!

Work-flow with ScribeSense is as follows:
- Render footage into ‘.flv’ format using freely available software. This can be integrated with the rendering you’d normally do after filming anyway. This stage replaces the copying of footage to tape or DVD for transcription.
- Place the ‘.flv’ file into the repository using freely available software. This is much quicker and cheaper than postage, with zero risk of damage or loss. Furthemore, this method allows multiple transcribers to work on a tape in multiple locations.
- Click a link, login, and select a tape. ScribeSense is fully web-based, which it highly likely that transcribers won’t need to install any additional software. Login is by a simple (but secure) passphrase which is easily settable at the point of installation. ScribeSense automatically detects all the ‘.flv’ files in the repository and allows easy selection from the window.
- Transcribe and click ‘Save’. It’s as easy as that. ScribeSense has several handy keyboard shortcuts, which result in less mouse use and a speedier process. When you click ‘Save’, ScribeSense automatically makes a backup of the previous version of the transcription - so you never have to worry about overwriting something important.
That’s all there is to it, but through this simplicity ScribeSense does the following:
- ScribeSense brings the whole video transcription process into an environment your team will feel more comfortable in. No more fiddling with DVD/VHS players and typing on the computer.
- ScribeSense is robust and secure. Your video and transcription files are protected by a password. And mangling is prevented by restricting access to 1 user at any given time.
- ScribeSense is flexible. Output can be in plain text or in XML, allowing easy importing into other software.
