Yesterday was intense.
The march was amazing. There were an inconcievable number of students there from universities all over the UK. The support we recieved was phenomenal; cars were honking and pedestrians were joining in with some of the catchier chants. I can’t really describe the atmosphere adequately, it was so charged with so many different feelings.
My two problems with it were the massive amount of socialist bullshit flying around and the seeming lack of opposition. I’ll expand my second point a little: The only people there were people who are outspoken in their support for us. Lots of top public figures, but no-one who’s opinion could be changed.
After the rally on Trafalgar square had finished a few of us (led by the mighty Dan Glass) went to parliament square to support the ‘No More Fallujas’ peace camp. This hit home a little harder: Aside from being less relevant to me directly it seemed to matter more in the grand scheme of things. What really struck home was the way the police kept coming and picking people off. Everyone was just sat around on the grass singing or doing whatever and the police would suddenly descend on someone seemingly chosen at random. I can’t properly summarise everything that happened, but it just struck me as a huge waste of police resources.
Speaking of resources - if troops were withdrawn from Iraq maybe the government would have enough money to fund education in a way similar to what they enjoyed when they were at uni.
Feel a bit too lazy to post.
Works piling up now, lots and lots of work.
Jack came for a couple of days, which was nice. Unfortunately this was punctuated by a mammouth 5-hour lab session. We still managed to visit the sea-life centre. Turtles rock.
Went to a Brighton No Borders workshop today. In the middle of an unhealthy dose of bullshit socialism (I’ve nothing against socialism normally) there were some human-rights gems. Julia is doing a write up for the amnesty group and keeps coming down to ask about the seminars that I went to by myself.
Went to see Jackie Chase during the lunch break too. The whole Save-Omar video night is really taking off. We’re two steps away from finalising having Bill Bailey as the keynote speaker! Woot!
Tomorrow we march through London to ‘Keep The Cap’. Bus leaves at 8.
Ever woken up with a moustache drawn on your face? Oh we’ve all been there.
Woke up late this morning with fuzzy head. Missed a lecture (boo!) and all because it was Josh’s birthday.
We do love Josh though so tis all good.
Laundry day, as alice points out, is evil. I too did my laundry today and almost left with more blood on my clothes than I went in with.
Aside from almost half the machines being brokken (meaning huge queues) and the change machine being out of pound coins (the only ones the washers accept) and and there being nowhere to sit and read, aside from all that some evil moronic wanker pushed in front of me in the queue to the driers.
The red mist came down.
Oh, and House is possibly the best TV Hospital Drama ever! Although it wouldn’t be hard, House whips ass. He’s so troubled *sigh* but so clever *swoon*.
Turned out mum had decided to send me a package of yummy things with my post.
Wowee, Co-Op orange and mango juice is da shit.
Photocopied 30 back issues of the guardian G2 soulmate today. Took forever becuase the pages are slightly bigger than A4, but with print only on an A4 sized area. In case you’re wondering I did this for my animal behaviour practical.
Oooh it hurts…
I think i sprained my ankle running for a bus last night. I remember doing it but I don’t remember it hurting like it does now. Must have been very drunk, which is worrying. Can’t walk this morning but still managed to go wading in the sea last night.
Maybe the pain matured. Like a cheese.
Might go and see the doctor.
Fun is… Double sided printing.
*Dr Nick*Hey everybody!*End Dr Nick*
Not a lot to say. Had another lovely week (+end) which involved much consumption of chips and antifolk.
Saw the Bobby McGees at the fringe bar and had muchos conversation with Mr Jimmy McGee after the set. He gave me musical tips and the like. Made me want to go back to snoopers corner to buy the organ I saw. Twas lully.
Ooh, I almost forgot! The internet this week has been rather shite. Always vurry slow. Tis okies now though, hence my posting. Bad internet came at the worst possible time though… At the time when I was trying to move the Tea Room Appreciators website to the brand spanking new http://tearoomappreciators.com. Many an acronym was typed as I SSHed and FTPed and VPNed around various university internet shittiness. I think I earned geek points this week.
But all is well now. I have magicfast internet again and the TRA have a lully shiny new domain. On that note: You should all go review Tea Rooms, or at least comment on the reviews that other people have done.
Toodles.
