Thought I’d check my emails.

Thought I’d check my emails. Had one from actionaid about AIDs day. So I diligently took a photo of my eye (you can do the same) and carried on exploring the site. Found an excellant new desktop wallpaper.
The thing is, even though these campaigns are about awareness not a lot is actually being done. The white bands have become a fashion statement and bollocks to poverty has turned into a way for celebs to avoid actually giving away any of their ‘hard-earned’ money. It’s actually a bit depressing.
IMHO the only thing that would really shake up Tony Blur (Lead vocalist of Ruff Trade) would be hunger strikes in britain. That’d shit him up.

Pistols at dawn

Behold, a reborn linux kid.
(NB this is gonna be primarily nerdy post, if this is likely to bore please discontinue reading.)
So I killed windows, properly. Now XP will not boot, not even in safe mode. Tis my own fault for pissing around with microsoft boot manager without isolating the kernel. Silly tom.
I was going to use my suse partition as a holding bay while I reformatted the windows partition and reinstalled windows.
During this process my love of linux was rekindled and so the process was aborted.
I’ve constructed a little metaphor between operating systems and horses:
Mac OS is like a school horse, dumbed down for people who can’t ride. Unresponsive and essentially useless, but adored by hordes of little girls who visit it once a week and feed it carrots.
Windows is your everyday hacker hoss. Good all rounder. Suitable for a wide range of riders. Generally safe but not in the least exciting. Expensive in vets bills.
Linux (all flavours) is the sport horse. Well bred (think unix) and powerful. Every install is different and interesting. Linux however, is non-tolerant towards incompetent riders. It can smell fear and will buck off the poor sod that wanted to tame it. Wear a helmet.
In other news. My van is out and passed it’s mot, first time, thanks to supreme tom luvvin. Looked over the spec for the new POS system at work, looks fancy, touchscreen and shit. Theres a bug on the forum, I will fix it, no-one has noticed because no-one is using it recently. Suits me.
This is tom wright, for whaletattoo, wishing you a good night.

I don’t have aids!

Strange thought just popped into my head: Giving blood acts like a sort of disease screening and not getting a letter from them is like getting a stamp of healthiness.
The ones they test for include hepatitus and aids, malaria and cyphilis. As well as any nasty infectious buggars! Haha!
Huzzah for being disease free! =D

Javascript cross incompatibility jizzes me off.

Well, I’ve mainly been working on the new system. Getting it to work in IE was a bitch, microsoft suck. Still I think it works quite well now. I wrote a small script for getting the weather feeds from Yahoo! weather. The blog (read: LJ_parser) library is now perfect as far as I can tell. Next projects are to create new themes and to write the box generating wizards.
Am loving skype at the mo, alice has it too now, so we can chat for free, which is cool. Chemistry is good at the moment, doing spectra which really interests me. :) (Yes I know, I’m sad)
I don’t like it getting dark so early, stops me from riding after school :( Anyway, write boxes for whaletattoo.com, it’s dead simple to do.
And lastly enjoy the new siteness :) Much love,
Tom
